Blue Ridge Parkway - Day 2 (Pictures)
Day 2 - May 1, 2011
I stayed in Asheville for the night...Amazingly I didnt
see any wildlife at all...Alas at the first stop I made at
a visitors center I saw this turkey just hanging out.
For some reason this picture is correct but the
program is loading it turned 90 degrees.
Above the waterfall I came across Rattlesnake Lodge. It
was built about 1900 and was a vacation spot for tourist.
It burnt down around 1929 from a lightning strike.
This was the caretakers tool shed foundation.
This appeared to be a cold cellar.
The lodge had a tennis court and this "swimming
pool". Which basically was a dammed up watering
hole.
These 2 trees compare normal yellow birch life
(18 years on the right) and yellow birch grown in
the high altitudes (78 years on the left).
